Tool of the week Block Paving Marker Slate

Marking slate is used to mark block paving, flagstones and slabwork that are required to be cut during an installation or repair.The marking needs to be clear and precise enough to allow an effective and accurate cut to be made. Similar to a varnish this is what coats the block paving producing the finish but also giving the paving the protection. The appearance is all dependant on how the sealer is applied, how many times it is applied and the type of sealer used. More frequent application or several coats will give a greater sheen or gloss finish.As sealers are used to provide a desired finish to block paving they can also cause an undesired appearance on the block paving if not used with care. It is always advisable to test an area of the paving with sealer before applying in order to confirm the finish, colour and texture is as required. If the block paving sealing has previously been carried out there may be some incompatibility between sealers. They may react together or more specifically not allow adherence to the blocks.Although when applied sealers are generally being applied to protect block paving Some cheaper sealers can react to hydrocarbons such as fuel oils like petrol and diesel and create issues for the very things that they where applied to protect from. So care should be taken especially when sealing driveways.If in any doubt about the application of a sealer seek the manufacturers or professional advice.
