A great improvement since they did it up. Well impressed.
We arrived at the Crown looking forward to the delicious food the Echo's taste test had tempted us with. Unfortunately it was not to be.... We ordered Tbone Steak and Lamb Hotpot, after a considerable wait which, we understood was for everything to be cooked fresh, the disappointments came thick and fast. My partner was unable to cut the steak, the waitress when called said " Oh, do you need a steak knife!!" No more like a machette - my Lamb hotpot was cooked freshly - two days before - the lamb had a very hard surface coating, more like mutton. They took the steak away to bring another Lamb hotpot instead, which took an age, and then to cap a disasterous evening they charged us for the Tbone which was not even tasted!! One good point which should be commended was the gravy, delicious, shame about the rest of the meal, At £19.00 the steak should have been tender and flavoursome. Nil point - should try better - and shame about the swearing from the bar which accompanied our meal throughout.
We visited this place last week, we had heard that some large amount of money had been spent of The Crown by it's new owners. What fantastic job they have done. The Pub is clean, really pleasant staff, that smile, the food is fresh first class and the choice of real ales, lagers and wines is the best in the High Street, at last, an up-market place to visit for those that appreciate.
