  • 3 I really wanted this to be good?

I had passed Pietro's many times, usually on my way to the Hoop pub in Stock which serves great food and beer and thought that looks like a fantastic place. Almost hidden from the main road, it is a small place, but very attractive. Indeed, after making my booking for 22/8/09, a few friends told me how great it was,so I was convinced it would be agreat meal especially as I had chosen this to celebrate my anniversay with my wife and some friends. When we arrived, we were greeted by the nice bar tender and shown to out table. Sadly, it was slightly down hill from there. Our table of 8 was laid out in such a way that it felt like we were an after thought? Four chairs on one side of the table, three on the other and one chair at the head of the table? Not ideal when there are four couples! The menu offers some really good choices and some of the mains can be chosen as starters, which is always a nice way to try other dishes. I choose a seafood risotto to start and as Pietro is Italian, I was expecting great things. The dish I received was very dissapointing. It was so dry that my folk could almost stand up on it's own. I am not Italian, but do cook risotto at least once a week and have tried many others and they always have that almost soupy texture which is so appealing. The waitress did ask me if the dish was okay having seen that I had hardly touched it and when I explained it was dry, she removed the dish rather swiftly. At this stage, you would expect perhaps (a) the offer of a new one, (b) an apology or (c) removal of the item from the bill. Unfortuntaly, I received none of these? Did the chef not care or just not agree with me? Surely, he most have felt dissappointed with it?Oh well, moving on to the mains I tried again with the Monkfish. It was dry outside that Saturday, but not as dry as my Monkfish which was very overcooked and one portion still had its tough like sand paper skin on. This was a day of diets for myself and my wife as her chicken was also very dry and remained on the plate. The service seemed very rushed and I just came away dissapointed. I wanted this to be a special occasion and a gem that I could rave about. Maybe Pietro was out that night?
